I'm all for limiting releases, as long as you put em on your own reader Just don't make me have to download stuff I'm lazy like that

I concur. I still think restricted releases would kill our hits ~ Maybe in new chapters we should add an extra page asking for people to vote on the forums?

Hm, well, I'm mostly a lurker, but...
1. Don't get rid of the downloads. I often read on a netbook, and nobody -- nobody -- has configured an online one to make reading in it a comfortable process on smaller screens.
2. I will admit that I often use Mediafire instead of the other ones; it's one of the most user-friendly of the file services. (I have to poke the least holes in my security.)
3. ...sorry, not in Japan currently, but -- you've checked Nyaatorrents? eMule can also pop out some surprising stuff -- I've gotten raws out of there with surprising speed. You've got to search using the right word(s) (tip: use the Japanese, though with some series that you will get the Chinese bootleg releases too) but volume scans, at least, will turn up within a few days of release in Japan. Not too sure on the speed of chapter scans' appearances.
If I was in Japan -- or, rather, heading to because I don't pack my scanner unless I know it'll be wanted -- I'd be happy to offer to scan on the condition that my buying any mags I'd not normally be purchasing be sponsored. I am a bit surprised at how much it costs you -- where are you attempting to buy it and what shipping method are they wanting you to use? I've shipped things both ways; it sounds like you're looking at EMS...
You might also check to see if some groups are willing to pool -- there's no sense to not work with people doing other series in the mags, especially if it spreads the importing costs among more people.
4. Don't stop listing with mangaupdates.com -- they're the fastest way to check who has what out, and I somehow doubt the majority of your readers read only series you release.

I was wanting to add some kind of zoom feature to the reader but those double pages are really annoying to work with so unfortunately as long as there are double pages I won't be able to add such a feature.

if we are limitting exposure only to our reader, i think we need to do our original stuff. like manga that other scanlators don't have. and steady release is the most important to get repeaters (ie. to make them bookmark this forum), regardless of other groups released earlier or not. if we have consistant releases in decent quality, then i can imagine some people will wait for our release.
but i don't think chasing for big titles like bleach/naruto/onepiece is as efficient now, since it's pretty much dominated by mangastream. i think it's more important to keep consistant releases.
